In the second part of our Meet the Team series we are happy to introduce you to one of our talented Purchasing Experts Elmira Bandrova. To learn more about her and what it takes to be a successful professional in her line of work read more below.
Describe your role in a couple of sentences
Currently I’m a Purchasing Expert. The purchasing expert is responsible for procuring the proper services and equipment for the project at the best value concerning quality and price.
How does an average day on the job look like for you?
Usually, I spend most of my time on the phone talking with suppliers and logistic companies or in front of the computer writing emails and researching products and companies. In order to meet the project requirements, I have to make sure that everything delivered to the project has the required certificates and will be delivered on time as per the agreed contract with our Investors. When we are starting a new project, I have to assist in a lot of meetings with the chosen suppliers in order to agree upon the payment terms, delivery terms, etc.
What’s the most important skill to bring to your position?
Organization and negotiation for sure.
What are the typical challenges you face in your role?
Sometimes I have to take very important decisions. If even one item from the order doesn’t reach the project on time, it will mean that my colleagues on site won’t have enough materials to organize their work on site. In this regard, the Purchasing Expert is also responsible for the financial aspect of the procurement process.
Why did you choose solar energy? What motivates you to work within the renewable sector?
In my case the Solar energy sector chose me when I had just come back from the USA 7 years ago. I was looking for a job in Bulgaria and the company that hired me happened to be in the renewable energy business. From then until now I have become more and more interested and motivated by the sector’s impact worldwide. Renewable energy is the future and it affects climate, environment and humans all the same.
What are your interests outside of work?
Boxing (I avoid using my hobby at work tho).
How and when did you start working in Solarpro?
I started working for Solarpro in the end of 2018. Before that I was a Technical assistant in another renewable energy company. I had just gotten back from my second maternity leave and I wasn’t really looking for a new job, but I wasn’t satisfied with the new position I had been given in my previous company as well. Some of my former colleagues had started their own business in the solar industry and one day one of them called me and asked me if I was looking for a new job. I had an interview and got the job and I have not regretted my decision ever since.
What advice would you give to someone looking to start a job in renewables?
Don’t waste any time and start immediately.
